2026 mileage planning

Multiply authorized official distance by the correct travel category.

Effective July 1, 2026, DTMO lists $0.76 per mile for a TDY automobile, $0.74 for a TDY motorcycle, $1.935 for a privately owned airplane, $0.235 for PCS MALT, and $0.235 for the “other” mileage category. The rate category matters as much as the distance. Travel before July 1 uses the earlier rate in DTMO’s effective-date table.

Enter authorized miles and choose the official travel category.

Three checks before using the result

  1. Confirm authorization. A POV used for convenience can be limited to the cost of the authorized transportation method.
  2. Use official distance. The reimbursable distance may come from the Defense Table of Official Distances or another approved mileage determination.
  3. Do not add operating costs again. The mileage allowance is generally paid in place of actual fuel, maintenance, insurance, and wear costs for that POV travel.

The PCS MALT rate is not intended to reimburse every operating cost, and it covers the authorized travelers riding in that vehicle. The “other” rate applies in specific circumstances, including when a government vehicle was available but a POV was used instead. Orders and the current JTR decide the correct category.
