Official source directory

Use the source that answers the specific travel question.

A rate table answers “what is the published maximum for this locality and date?” It does not answer whether a traveler is eligible, whether a cost was authorized, or how a special itinerary should be handled. Use rate sources for numbers, the regulations for rules, and the authorization and servicing office for the traveler’s facts.

A reliable verification sequence

Start with the current authorization and identify the disputed input: locality, date, lodging, meal, mileage, traveler category, or special circumstance. Check the corresponding primary rate source, then read the cited JTR or agency rule in context rather than relying on a search-result excerpt. If the rule still does not resolve the traveler’s facts, document the question and contact the authorizing or servicing office. That sequence produces a reviewable answer and avoids combining an old rate with a current rule.
